Texas Health MedSynergies' Medical Billing/Coding Specialist

A nonexempt position responsible for coding, coordinating, verifying, distributing, and all billable services.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with clinical staff to obtain charge information for all patients.
  • Codes procedures performed and diagnosis on charge.
  • Assigns appropriate ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS code(s) to accurately support the need and documentation for each service.
  • Coordinate copies of medical documentation with physician charges to support billing to third-party payers.
  • Identifies physician services provided, but not accurately documented in the medical record. Advises supervisor, physician and clinicians of deficiencies to support charge capture of all billing services.
  • Analyzes and resolves physician claim rejects and denials from the billing system or insurance carriers related to coding issues.
  • Identifies trends/problems in medical documentation and department request issue and recommends possible solutions.
  • Verifies and completes charge information in database and produces billing.
  • Maintains required billing records, reports, files, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.
    • CPC or equivalent coding certification.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year billing experience in a health care organization.
  • Two years coding or clinical experience or Coding Certification with one year coding or clinical experience.
  • Must have a working knowledge of CPT, ICD-9 and HCPCS coding and modifier use.
  • In-depth knowledge of third-party payer reimbursement policies and procedures a plus.

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of billing practices and clinic policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of coding and clinic operating policies.

Skills:

  • Proficient skills in computer programs.
  • Skill in using a calculator.

Responsible for directing, supervising and coordinating the daily administrative activities of both the clinical and non-clinical areas of the practice. Provides coverage for professional nursing care for clinic patients. Follows established standards and practices. Prepares patients during office visits and assists patients and family members before, during and after doctor's visit. Works under the direct supervision of the physician. Refers matters outside the scope of duties to the physician or practice manager.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs general nursing care to patients, administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.

  • Prepares examination rooms and checks off daily cleaning list at the end of day. This includes restocking of treatment rooms.
  • Maintains temperature log on refrigerator.

  • Responsible for routinely verifying and disposing of expired medications.

Patient Services Representative, Operations

MedSynergies is currently seeking a Patient Services Representative. This position's responsibilities include answering multiple incoming telephone lines, following all HIPAA guidelines and reviewing patient accounts to answer questions in regards to patient responsibility, insurance information, and charge information in a courteous and helpful nature. You will also be reviewing and working patient correspondence, updating information, auditing accounts, mailing out requested information to the patients. This position will be documenting accounts with summarized, but detailed, explanation of events that have transpired, accurately use coded notes to submit request for updated insurance, analyst review, and statement request and determinating the extent of time on call (upon realization of account needing extensive research or call minutes, transfer the call to the appropriate Insurance Analyst or Patient Collections Specialist).

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of medical experience
  • Strong knowledge of medical insurance (HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medicaid)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong PC skills and computer literate in Microsoft Word

MedSynergies is currently seeking a scan clerk in Operations/Financial Services. This position's responsibilities include in-depth processing of all deposits received on a daily basis for multiple medical practices including paper and electronic payments and correspondence from client's bank. The scan clerk reconciles all payments back to the bank deposit/credit received each day. Sort and distribute per SOP all pieces of correspondence to the correct place/person. This position will follow up and research to ensure everything is completed and imaged correctly into our imaging software.
